The large publishing companies are not approachable directly by authors and only consider works submitted by a literary agent.   A literary agent will only view submissions from previously published authors or authors with notable celebrity status.   Without prior publishing or a notable name, the literary agent may offer a submission process, but response time averages 2-3 months (if you even receive a response at all).  Quite simply, the methodology of large publishing and traditional literary agents is cumbersome and frustrating for a first time author.
